Cash works because it runs out. What it will not do is add itself up - so this does that part, and tells you exactly what to ask for at the counter.

WHAT IT IS
One HTML file that opens in the browser you already have. It keeps your envelopes, every movement in and out, the payday run, the sinking funds, the challenge cards and the whole year - and the balance column adds itself up. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for.

THE ONE THING PAPER CANNOT DO
Every envelope system asks you to work out what to withdraw. This one works it out: envelope by envelope, rounded up to notes a teller can actually hand over, then counted out largest first, with whatever falls under the smallest note named as change. You walk in with one figure instead of dividing at the window.

HOW IT WORKS
Logging a spend is one line: pick the envelope, type what it was, type the amount. The balance column is every earlier row of that envelope added up, so it is right however the rows are sorted, and the number on the envelope cannot disagree with the notes inside it. Pick your own payday rhythm - weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly, monthly - and every per-payday figure follows it. It opens on a phone, a tablet or a laptop from the same file.

IT PRINTS
Envelope covers with the register printed on the outside, where you actually write. Register slips four to a sheet for the pouch that will not take a cover. All four challenge cards, and the budget sheets. US Letter or A4, undated, so the same pages print again next year.

PRIVACY, DESCRIBED RATHER THAN PROMISED
Everything you write stays in this browser on this device. There is no account, no login, no sync and no server holding a copy, and the app makes no network request of any kind - turn the wifi off and it works exactly the same. That is a description of how it is built, not a promise about what somebody intends to do.

SETUP TAKES 0.6 SECONDS
Open the file. That is the whole install - measured at 0.6 seconds to a usable screen, in a clean browser, in all six languages. One optional first name is the only thing it asks for, and you can skip that too. There is no account, no password and no subscription.

THE GUIDE IS INSIDE IT
Every screen has its own entry: what it is for, what to type into it, what the numbers mean and what to do when one of them looks wrong. It is searchable, it follows a tab you have renamed, and the ? button in the header opens it at whatever screen you are standing on. There is also a one-page quick start in the download, saying the same words.

IT IS YOURS
You buy the file, not a seat. There is no subscription and nothing to renew, it will still open in ten years because nothing in it can be switched off from somewhere else, and one button writes a backup you can carry to any other machine.

QUESTIONS
Do I need an account?
No. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to log in to. The file is yours and it runs on your own machine.

Does it work without internet?
Yes, always. It never makes a network request of any kind, so it is the same with the wifi off, in a waiting room or on a train.

Which browsers does it work in?
Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone. It is one HTML file, so anything that opens a web page opens it.

How long does setting it up take?
Opening the file is the install. It was measured at 0.6 seconds to a usable screen in a clean browser, in all six languages, and the one thing it asks for is optional.

Is there a guide, and what is in it?
Yes, two. A searchable guide inside the app with an entry for every screen - what it is for, what to type, what the numbers mean - and a one-page quick start PDF in the download.

What if I get stuck?
Message me here. The card in your download also carries a reply address, and a wrong or missing file gets sorted the same day I see it.

How do I back it up or move to a new phone?
One button writes a file with everything in it, including the way you arranged your tabs. Open the same app on the other device and load that file back.

How do I claim the free version?
